Both Middlesex and Gloucestershire have misfired in this tournament and have managed to win only three matches in the whole tournament between them. So, this match is really between potential wooden spoon team of South Divison group. Middlesex could only conjure a solitary victory against Somerset in this season’s Natwest T20 blast. Gloucestershire has done one better and managed to pick up two wins along the way. The chances of both these teams making it to the next round are quite slim so they have nothing to play for but pride and ensure that they do not languish at the bottom of the table.
Middlesex is coming off a loss against Essex and need to get their act together if they want to avoid getting the last place. Eoin Morgan is the main batsman but there has been little support from the other. Their foreign recruit, Daniel Christian has been disappointing and of the reasons for the horrendous show of Middlesex in the tournament so far. Their batsmen have not shown the desire to put up big scores which has hurt the bowlers as well. Middlesex have some quality batsmen in their side so a better performance is expected from them in this match. Denly and Malan are experienced openers who have to put up a good platform for the team to ensure that they do not put up a below par score against Gloucestershire.
Gloucestershire has a couple of losses to their name in the last two matches so the morale is not quite high in the camp right now. This is one of the things that will favor Middlesex as they also picked up their first win Somerset just a week ago. Gloucestershire, however are looking at a downward spiral and need to do something quickly unless they want to risk another in their column. Klinger and Marshall are the experienced batsmen for Gloucestershire but the bowling has been lackluster.
Middlesex sure has the advantage with regards to player quality and should take full advantage of the same. Gloucestershire is reeling after a couple of losses so this is a very good chance for Middlesex to stamp their authority and pick up another victory. Just one victory from eight matches would be really hurting the Middlesex team so they definitely have the desire to go out and play for another victory. Hence, Middlesex is my favorite to win the match against Gloucestershire.
