England and Sri Lanka suffered bad losses at the hands of Australia and New Zealand respectively at the start of the tournament but they are still in a position to finish in the top two of Group A. New Zealand is undoubtedly the team to beat after their latest win over Australia. However, the second spot is up for grabs since Australia could not register a win over Bangladesh on accord of rain. This is a very good chance for both teams to get a win and improve their chances of finishing in the top two which means they get to play one of the lower placed sides from Group B in the quarter finals.
Sri Lanka is slowly starting to play to their potential with the likes of Dilshan, Herath and Malinga getting in form. This augurs well for both their batting and bowling departments. Their batting was heavily dependent on Jayawardene and Sangakkara. Others have to lend them support if they want to reach the latter stages of the tournament. Malinga was not at his best at the start of the tournament but is slowly finding his rhythm. He will be the main bowler for the team in the knockout stages of the tournament.
Thirimanne and Dilshan had a good partnership in their last match against Bangladesh but they will be up against better bowlers in the form of Anderson and Broad. Anderson went wicketless against Australia and New Zealand and could only manage two wickets against Scotland. He will be hungry for wickets up front and can be the most dangerous bowler in this match. He is the strike bowler for England and the team will rely on him to get wickets regularly. Sri Lankan batsmen should be wary of the threat of Tredwell as well if he gets to play in this match.
The batting has been a letdown for Engladn as none of the batsmen managed to play well in the first two matches. Morgan was left to fend for the team but Moeen Ali struck a wonderful century that will give the team management some confidence. Bell and Ali are threatening to become a solid pair at the top of the order which will be tested in the remaining matches. England cannot afford to slip up anymore as they have already lost two out of their three matches. They will fight extra hard in this match and should get their second win of the tournament.
