The quarter-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 have been decided and South Africa will take on Sri Lanka first. South Africa has been inconsistent so far losing to India and Pakistan while Sri Lanka has picked up momentum after losing to Australia and New Zealand. There will be too much pressure on South Africa as they have been known to choke in pressure situations and knockout games. Both teams are a little weak when it comes to bowling with South African bowlers not finding form while Sri Lanka have injury worries. The first quarter final will be an interesting match as the two sides are quite different from each other.
South Africa was undone by the spin of India and Pakistan in the league stages which Sri Lanka will try to exploit. The only concern for Sri Lanka is the availability of their main spinner Rangana Herath who is uncertain for the match. This could be a big blow for Sri Lanka as there are many right handed batsmen in South Africa that could be troubled by the left arm spin of Herath. However, there are many positives with the bat for Sri Lanka.
It is well known that it will be the last World Cup for Sangakkara and Jayawardene so they will make great efforts to take their team into the semi finals again. Sri Lanka has at least made the semi-final stage in the last three editions of the World Cup. However, they have failed to win the World Cup even though they made it to the finals on two of the last three occasions. This will be on the back of their minds and hence will be a dangerous team to tackle in the knockout games. They have the experience and hunger to do well in the latter stages of the World Cup.
South Africa has been dependent on AB De Villiers a bit and that is a big worry at this stage of the tournament. Duminy was supposed to be a key player with bat and ball but he has been largely out of form. Imran Tahir has bowled in patches but has not troubled the big teams. His performance will be crucial but Sri Lankan batsmen are known to play spin well. South Africa will look to trouble the Sri Lankan batsmen with pace but Steyn and company have been inconsistent so far. Dale Steyn has not bowled with enough fire to make the batsmen afraid. He will be the main bowler for South Africa and needs to take wickets in every match from here on to help the team win the World Cup. South Africa surely has an advantage since they have better bowlers than Sri Lanka.
